Mini Kit Madness

Posted on by crazydaisy

I am so loving this month’s mini kit. I’m a brown, earthy girl … so this kit is right up my alley. It’s the prefect kit for transitioning into fall and cooler weather!

Check out the adorable (seriously adorable) layouts Kelly Hansen created with this kit. Love ‘em.

See Trace Craft

Posted on by crazydaisy

See great pages. Feel inspired. Get scrappin! Here’s what Trace Geworsky  did with the August kit. I have to point out that Trace managed to make nine (9) layouts, a card and a mini book with the August Main kit and still has stuff left over! Talk about a really awesome and crammed-packed kit, if I do say so myself.

“Good Stuff”

A card by Trace using the August Main kit.

“For this card titled simply “good stuff” I used one of the chipboard butterflies as a stencil and traced it over a folded piece of cardstock, so that after trimming it, it would stand open. I used diamond glaze and some beads I had lying around to decorate the body of the butterfly(unfortunately you can still see some of the diamond glaze on the cardstock). I rolled up two small pieces of scrap patterned paper to use as the antennae.”

“Relax: This is Fun”

p1090889_1

“I just couldn’t think of a creative title for this one, so I just used the words from the paper as my title! I really liked the Pink Paislee stickers in this kit..On the back of the package there was a piece of paper with samples of each sticker, so I trimmed each design out to also use on my projects. I used the “relax…” paper as the flower center.”

“Fetching Fella”

p1090836_1

“I’m really not at all creative when it comes to my titles, so I tend to use rub ons, stickers, etc. to act as my titles.
I wanted to use up some of the numbers from the thickers, so I used them to mark the date from the pictures on my layout. I cut out the little tree design from the paper and adhered it to the matching paper using pop dots.”

p1090832_1_1

“Our Family”

p1090844_1

“I LOVEworking with patterned paper that has a busy print because it “allows” me to keep the layout quite simple. You dont want to add too much to make it overly busy. I added very short journaling, a rub on, sticker, and for my focal point, I added 3 buttons, the AWESOME crochet flower with ribbon..I wanted my focal point to be a different color then the rest of the layout.”

p1090842_1

*******************************

“Pure Joy”

p1090825_1

“Because I don’t often add my own title to a layout, I like to use the alphas for other things, like the date, or as decoration. I used some of the thickers as the centers for the flowers on the paper. I added the friend rub on to a scrap piece of blue paper(from the kit) so it would blend in, but still be noticeable at the same time. I took one of the transparency pages out of the mini album , so I could cut out the green butterfly to use on this page.”

p1090824_1

*******************************

“enjoy these good memories”

p1090868_1

“I had fun using the stickers to form a sentence/title. I loved the journaling paper because it was 4 inches in height same as the picture, so the design worked together. I applied a rub on onto a piece of paper (I cut this paper out that matched the sticker, from the scrap piece) and then adhered a confetti butterfly with a pop dot onto the paper… To make a custom flower around the circle design I trimmed each petal off the fabric flower, and then adhered it pedal by pedal.”

p1090866_1

*******************************

“ms flirt”

p1090864_1

“I like this picture of my puppy because she looks as though she is flirting with the camera … I chose these Jenni Bowlin papers with this picture because I find her paper to be bright and flirty too. I didn’t want my title to really pop out, so I used the white thickers over the white cardstock and blue & white patterned paper. I layered a strip of ribbon with the flower. Using pop dots, I folded and adhered the confetti butterflies over the printed butterflies on the paper.”

p1090859_1

*******************************

“escape reality”

p1090880_1

“I went with a 6×8 picture that had a lot of empty space on it, so that I could add my journaling, and the title directly onto the picture. To make it look as though I tied a piece of ribbon around the paper (and to save ribbon). I cut a strip that fit the width of the paper, and adhered it. Then I tied a know on a second piece of ribbon, and adhered the knot onto the ribbon strip.”

*******************************

“before and after”

p1090857_1

“I wanted a before and after picture of my son with his haircut, so I used scrap strips of paper to create a large grid design on the background paper. I used a chipboard butterfly from the mini album, applied a rub on to the body and added a button to the center of that design. In the other grid, I layered 2 fabric flowers, with the large button as the flower center.”

August layouts from JJ

Posted on by crazydaisy

It’s a layout extravaganza this week on the Crazy Daisy blog. I’m so loving all the different layouts from the Crazy Daisy girls and just how different each of their styles and perspectives are. Who knew you could do so many different things with all the same supplies? Today’s installment comes from the wonderful JJ Sobey.

“He Makes Her Laugh”

“I really wanted to try something different with the wonderful die cut paper from Crate, so I cut it in two, and arranged it as shown on the background paper. Then I stitched between the two pieces. I used the Pink Paisley chipboard shape for my title, and added some buttons and a couple flowers from my stash. I also used one of the phrase stickers as part of my title. I wanted to rough up the chipboard a little, so I sanded the edges and added StazOn ink.

I loved this suede flower from Maya Road. Such great texture. After I adhered it to my layout, I realized there wasn’t enough contrast, so I added some chocolate brown flowers around the edge. I added a few of the Pink Paisley rub-ons around the journaling, to draw a little more attention to the strips. I took this picture back in December. Even then, at only 4 months old, Rhys found Liam to be very funny. He still makes her laugh, and I love the sound!”

“Bottoms Up”

“I love how well the Basic Grey and Pink Paisley lines coordinated in this kit. Like they were made for each other. I did a lot of layering and inking on this page. There was a title card from My Mind’s Eye in the kit, and I really liked how it looked behind part of the layers. I didn’t want to hide the entire card though, so I just cut off and used the ends. I traced around the felt letters with a marker to make them pop a little more. I also added a few items to the top corner, to balance the layout. I had the coordinating Pink Paisley journal spot in my stash, so I used it here. I distressed the edges to make it work better with the layout.”

More August Layouts …

As promised, here are another batch of layouts using the August 2009 Main scrapbooking kit. These layouts are courtesy of Jackie, who recently joined our design team. We’re so excited to have Jackie on our team and love what she’s done with the August kit.

“The big butterfly is a link from the mini book. I also added half of the cute overlay from the kit on the butterfly!”

“If you look at the ribbon you can see I applied some of the rub ons right on the ribbon to dress it up a bit.”

August Layouts

Posted on by crazydaisy

As our wonderful Design Team has been submitting their creations for the month of August, I’ve been struck by how different each of these ladies are when it comes to their interpretation of the August 2009 Main kit. It just goes to show you no matter what you style or perspective is, you can take the supplies in our kit and create lots of amazing layouts.

For today, here’s a look at what Grace did. Tomorrow, check back to see Jackie’s take on the kit. And later in the week, I’ll post post some creations from Kim, JJ and Trace.

Enjoy!

Our Family

"Our Family" by Grace Tolman

"Our Family" by Grace Tolman

“At the end of last year, I wrote a little summary of what each member of my family accomplished that year in my blog. I liked the idea so much that I printed the same pictures that I used in the post plus copy and paste the text onto a word document and printed that out as well. I strongly feel that blog is another great way of scrapbooking. Sometimes we think it’s time taking away from actual paper crafting but when you have pictures and text already saves somewhere, like the blog, it frees you up from shuffling through your picture files and writing text/journaling. It’s all in the blog, all you need to do is copy and paste. More time to play with paper is always a plus in my book.

Since this is a two page spread, I had to spread the supplies a little further to cover up the bigger space. I cut out patter paper strips, glued them down as borders (top and bottom of my pictures) and added machine stitching for texture. I created a visual triangle with the orange color word sticker, flower and rubon.”

Star Student

“This page documented how well my son has grown through his first year in school. I had a heavy load of journaling which I balanced with picture and stars from pattern paper on the top.
I was able to feature a few of the papers in the kit here by using them for my stars. The big chipboard star in the middle was from July’s kit (it’s a good thing to save leftovers from previous kits) and used that as my foundation for the collage of elements in the middle.”

This is Fun

“I got the idea for this page when I saw the Heidi Swapp stickers in the kit, especially the one that I used here for my title. It definitely worked out for these pictures of my sister on the trampoline. I played up the butterflies here, using the foiled embossed butterflies, butterfly ribbon and cutting out some from the Jenni Bowlin paper. I also added a butterfly stamp (from my stash) to complete the visual triangle.”

Pio Pico

“Here’s some pictures of a trip that my family took to a local historic museum last year. I was so surprise that by lining up little pictures,I was able to fit so many of them in one page.  I used the transparency here to give more emphasis to my focal picture and added my title to an empty space on the picture as well. I had to take the picture of this page at an angle cause the transparency is causing a glare in the picture.  I loved the bright orange flowers in the kit. I prettied them up with the buttons, also in the kit.”

Summer Fun

A Backyard Roasting Party by Grace

A Backyard Roasting Party by Grace

Do you have a lot of summer pictures to scrap. With summer in full swing, I’m sure you are collecting tons of pics featuring beach time, backyard BBQs and lazy summer naps. The colors in the June Crazy Daisy main kit scream summer.

Grace’s layout “Backyard Roasting Party” is one of those layouts I’m talking about – a family summer moment caught on film. How did she tell her summer story? Here’s a little background on what went into creating the layout:

backyard-roasting-party-1-1

“This layout’s theme was all about fun since it showcases pictures of an everyday ‘fun’ family moment. I used a lot of reds here to play up the ‘fire’ in the picture and story. I loved the chipboard shape and was the perfect ‘flame’ accent for the layout. I also created a visual triangle between the flames, red pattern paper which had my title and journaling and the canvas ‘play’ accent. “

What’s your favorite summer moment? What are you looking forward to scrapping the most  now that summer is upon us? Leave us a comment and tell us what summer story you want to capture and save for all time.

Loving these layouts

Posted on by crazydaisy

It’s Friday and I know all of you crafters out there are ready for the weekend. I know I look forward to the weekends, because I always have more time to create (maybe that’s because my husband is home and can wrangle the kids!).

Here are two different layouts, from two different design team members. Both were created using the June Main Kit. Hope you like them as much as we do!

"Play" by Trace

"Play" by Trace

Here’s a little on how Trace created this page:

“Before I added anything to my cardstock, I sprayed some black Maya Mist over it to get a speckled look. Once that had dried (maybe 2 minutes) I cut some strips of patterned paper.

When I start a layout, I never have a plan ahead of time of what I will do with it. My first step is trimming patterned paper to different sizes, and arrange the paper and picture, and from there the layout comes together.

I hand cut a bee from the Basic Grey paper, added a pop dot and placed it over the bee print still on the patterned paper. I love the Canvas Prima tag!!! I added my journaling directly onto it. I’m also a huge fan of paint, so I added some to the S monogram.”

Here’s a little on how Grace created her “Walk with M” page:

“On this page, I used the felt ric-rac, green fabric, chipboard shapes, buttons and the stitched alphabet rub-on. I machine stitched the fabric onto my page which complemented the stitched letter rub-ons.”

So, now that you’ve seen some awesome layouts and have a little inspiration, I have a question. What are you going to work on this weekend? What are you going to create?

A layout to inspire you

Looking for some ideas on just how to use the June Main Kit? Here’s a layout from Trace, along with a little bit of info on how she created it …

“The title of this layout is ‘Love how I feel today.’

I outlined the Thickers to make them pop more over the blue patterned paper. I rubbed an ink pad over the chipboard journaling spot, and then inked the edges before adding my journaling to it. I added a button to each scallop.

I LOVE those stitched autumn leaves rub-ons, and added a heart to the end of my title, before adding the date from the pictures.”

Check back tomorrow to see what Kim did with her June mini-book … she created a prayer book out of it.
