All Grown up, by Grace Tolman

1. All Grown Up

I love this page. I love that the colors of the cardstock and papers compliment my pictures and make the purples in my girl’s dress pop out more. I didn’t think the blue in the chipboard letters compliment my page so I sprayed it with glimmer mist but didn’t stick well on the surface so I rubbed it off and left a distinct color distortion. I also sprayed the mist onto the cardstock to compliment the rustic feel of the page.

2. Celebrate

I love double sided papers because you get the most designs for your buck. Such is the case in this layout where I only used three papers but got six different but complimenting designs. I also punched 1″ circles and layed them out in the middle to break all the blockiness of the page. I used my pen to create a frame on my title to make it stand out more against the background.

3. his anchors

I wanted to keep this layout simple to focus on my journaling and picture. There’s certain layouts that doesn’t need too much products to tell a story. I felt this one was in that category. My sewing machine is packed up right now in a storage place somewhere in town so I didn’t have it on hand to sew up my lace so I chose to use a stapler instead. Speaking of the lace, I used it to create my visual triangle in the page.

The Last Time, by Grace Tolman

4. The last time

This was the first page I made with the kit. I love my first pages with the Crazy Daisy kit because it usually has a little bit of everything in the kit on the layout. I handcut flowers from a pattern paper to use as an embellishment and added the Pink Paislee brads in the centers of them. I also used a die cut tab in the top left corner.

5. Thanksgiving 09

Here’s my double page spread for this month. I used a lot of pattern papers here to create my borders. I also used the bracket die cuts to act as borders of my journaling block. I added a black fabric brad on the “g” in the title too and cut out more flowers to add as an embellishment.

May Layouts ….

Posted on by crazydaisy

It’s such a treat for me each time I get an email from one of our design team members. These ladies rock. I’m impressed with all they do and what seems to be an endless source of creativity. They make me want to dedicate more time to doing all things crafty.

Here’s some layouts from Grace:

1. A Mother’s Bliss

Sometimes shaped pattern paper are good as a template to create shaped from another paper. Such was the case for the blue pattern paper which framed my white cardstock. I love the My Mind’s Eye pattern paper in the kit but it didn’t work with the rest of my design, so I used it as a template, tracing it behind the blue pattern and cutting out the design, giving me a unique frame. I also repurposed “8″ stickers for my 2 S’s in the title.

2. Anniversary date

This is my two page spread for this month. Although I usually use 12×12 size, I thought that the pictures will look better in a smaller scale.
I used the back side of the My Mind’s Eye papers with a Kraft color background. I cut out the GCD paper to get the handcut flowers on this page. They served as my elements that created the visual triangle.

3. his hands

This is one of my fave pages right now. I love that I was able to finally document something that I love about my husband. We have this little routine to hold hands while driving. Of course he has one hand in the steering wheel and the other holding mine. I took that “physical” representation of love and journaled about the many ways his hands shows love for me and the kids. To create the page, I layered pattern papers and embellishments. I love the fancy black trim and used that to lead the eye to the photo. I made sure the title stood out a little bit more against the background, so I painted over the paper and then adhered the letters.

4. Little Miss Sunshine

This page was based on the sketch assigned to all the design team members, for Sketch Inpiration. I layered two papers here. Gotta love double sided papers, I used just one sheet here, representing both patterns in this page. I added the lines of circles with punched pattern paper and buttons.

5. Breakfast fit for a Queen

This page focused on one photo. A photo of my breakfast during Mother’s day of last year. I lined up pattern papers, border sticker and trim. I also added the rubon, flower and journaling block here.

Recycle those packages
By Grace Tolman

Hi guys!

I’m sure by now, you have received your wonderful May kits. Aren’t they to die for? Just gorgeous!

Another gorgeous thing I noticed was the packaging of the products. I really have to commend manufacturers for providing us with endless inspiration. Imagine even the packaging can spark something.

Mine was the back side of the packaging for the canvas stickers from Basic Grey. Look what I made out of it ….

I handcut the flowers and used that as a focal point in this simple “hi” card.

Since my flower cut out is big, I made sure everything else was minimal. Starting with the pattern paper on the background, and then the sentiment and then the bling that I added to the flower pictures.

Inspiration abounds in product packaging. So make sure when you get your kit, don’t quickly toss the containers/packaging that it came from, you’ll never know what you can make out it.

Signing off,
Grace

Grace’s Place: May Mini

I am minibook

By Grace Tolman

When I get my Crazy Daisy kits every month, I tend to make the layouts first and then work on the mini with all the leftovers but this month, I changed things up a bit and worked on the fantastic Kaiser Scrapbook mini first. I was intrigued at the way the mini was built that it was just calling my name.

Because the mini was packaged together, you need to take a little time to pull them apart and do some sanding.

I painted the edges white to I can have a finished look. Some of the pages have decorative edges on them and I knew that it’ll be tough for me to cover that all with paper so the easier step would be to paint them.

This book was a gift that I gave to my mother in law for Mother’s day. I was inspired by the MME’s paper with all the journaling blocks and thought that it would be neat for my family to have some little known information preserved about our wonderful Grandma Caryol. She laughed when I said that this gift was a gift to her and to me too.

So I covered the mini with the papers in the kit and used the journaling blocks/questions as the main text/body of the mini.

To add texture and dimension to the mini, I added the MM flourish stickers, Prima pearls and rhinestones and Hambly rub ons. Lots of fun stuff from this kit.

So there you have it. Hopefully this inspired you to grab your Crazy Daisy May kit and make something easy and memorable.

Signing off,
Grace

Grace’s Place: April Layouts

Posted on by crazydaisy

Need a little push to get your scrapping under way for the month of April? Here are some lovely layouts from Grace using the April 2010 Main Kit.

********************

1. Be True to You

I always like to make my first page using as much products from the kit as I can. This one is the example of that. I really loved the soft, vintage feel of the rosette flowers but I didn’t quite like the cream color of them so I sprayed some glimmer mist (from my own stash) to add some depth to them.

This layout focuses on a letter to my daughter where in I want her to remember to love herself and not allow outside influence to dictate how she would feel about her self worth.

And since it’s a feminine layout, I focused on using the softer toned papers and products. I also created added glimmer mist to one of the white flower and some of my canvas letter stickers.

2. Abalone Cove

Here I wanted my focus to be in my photos since there’s a lot of them.

I did add color and pattern to the page by creating a inward scallop border all around the page. This is made easy by the double sided papers in the kit, a 1″ circle punch and machine stitching.

I sprayed glimmer mist on the canvas letters again to make them pop out plus created visual triangle with the pinks sprinkled on the page.

3. Eat up!

This page is about my son’s enormous appetite lately. That kid can wolf down a major amount of food. I added colors to the plain background by adding the little yellow bicycle tabs as strips of pattern on the page.

I also added the cute ticket stubs from house of 3 here. These downloadable products are so convenient to use.

The title was inspired by an Eric Carle book that my kids love. And finally, I created a resist misting with the doile rubons. I transferred them onto some pattern paper, cut out the shape then sprayed glimmer mist on it. Quickly wiped it with paper towel and the result- some color added to the pattern paper but the doile rubon remained white making it standout more against the background pattern paper.

4. Up in the Air

This was a fun one to make. I divided the page into two sections. One contained a feminine touch with my pictures while the other half consisted of a little more masculine feel with my son’s pictures.

I added the maya road chipboard persons here. I decided to keep them in their raw state so that they’ll stand out better from all the pattern in the page. I added a little butterfly punch on each one to add emphasis to the “up in the air” theme.

5. Downtown Disney

Here’s my two page spread for this month. I wanted to incorporate the many papers in the page but thought that their designs were to “girly” for my theme so I used them in smaller doses, using most of them as my handmade Mickey silhouettes on the top of my pictures.
I used one of the American journaling block stickers as a base for a small collage of elements on the top right of the layout.

Good Idea pocket book

By Grace Tolman

This mini was inspired by the GCD studios tag. Because of how sturdy the book was and having that tag, it was just necessary to put them together and create a little pocket book that I can put in my purse for those times when inspiration strikes.

I covered the book with the papers in the main kit and added the tag as my title and main focus.I also added a butterfly to the front, just because it was so pretty.

I was inspired by Heidi Swapp’s take on the mini for this month that I created cascading pages in the inside of my book as well. I divided them into categories like- titles, journaling, design, color and others. This way when inspiration strikes, I can write it down in the appropriate area so when I need to look back, I know exactly where to find the specific idea.

To create my tabs, I used some pattern papers and different types of border punches. I also did some machine stitching with them then used a letter rub on pack (from my own stash) to create the section headers.

I added a doile rub on to the back of the book and added my name and date.

I decided to make this a flat mini since it’s going to be stored in my purse. I’m also thinking of putting it in a plastic (Ziploc type) bag for extra protection from dirty hands, lipstick smudges and all sorts of messes that can be found inside my purse. :)

So that’s it. Hope you were inspired!

Itty Bitty scraps

By Grace Tolman

Hi guys! I’m sure most, if not all of you, have already received your March kit and you’ve probably made a few layouts here and there with the kit. By the way, don’t you just adore the main kit? The colors work so well together and the embellishments are just plain fun!

Well I don’t know about all of you but I’m one to save every little piece of paper that I can. Sometimes that’s a bad thing (you should see my scrap bin) but for the most part, those itty bitty pieces usually result to some cool new design that I haven’t thought about.

So today let me share with you three cards that I made with my leftover supplies from the March main kit.

These three cards were mainly put together with my kit scraps! I love the idea that by saving all my little strips of paper, I was able to make them come together (in small dozes) and bring color and design to my solid colored cards.

I added a few silk flowers from my own stash but for the most part my kit provided me with so much products to work with.

So that’s my share for today. Before you throw those itty bitty pieces of paper or products away, do a double check on them, you’ll never know what “bit” of inspiration you can get from them.

Till next time,
Grace

DT: Meet Grace

The final member of the Crazy Daisy Design Team 2010 is the fabulous Grace Tolman. Grace was part of our very first design team and we’re thrilled to have her continue as part of our team. She’s so talented. And I am amazed at how much she gets accomplished. Here’s a little more about Grace.

1. I can’t imagine my life without …  my family and paper! I cannot have enough of both.

2. My least favorite chore is …  cleaning the bathrooms. I get irritated at all the scrubbing that I need to do.

3. I would love to win a shopping spree to … Target or Michael’s. They got everything this girl ever wanted.

4. My must have treat and music when scrapbooking is …  Treat- don’t do treats, I get pretty messy when eating and I don’t want to get those in my projects; Music- it varies. Whatever I feel like listening at that time, and sometimes I even prefer it to be just quiet.

5. When scrapbooking, I love to use …lately I’ve been obsessed with border punches. It seems like every project has a punched border on them. They’re just fun and it adds that extra umph to everything.

6. My favorite creative project is … right now, it has to be cards. I love that they’re fast to make and I can pile it up with however many elements I want it to have.

7. I thought I would never …  learn the manual mode in my camera.

8. My worst habit is …  spending way too much time on the computer.

9. My favorite scrappy or crafty web site is …  there’s so many to choose from but I do linger at blogs a lot especially this and this.

10. You would never guess it, but I …  had a Winne the Pooh collection when I was in college. I was obsessed with it. I had everything from shirts, to stuff toys to bags. My mother-in-law found out about this and gave me a pooh kitchen towel one Christmas. She’s very sweet.

Grace’s Place: Layouts

I’m always amazed at the wonderful pages that Grace creates. She is super talented and if you ever read her blog you’ll know that she’s beyond busy, crazy organized and pretty much super mom. I envy the grace she shows in each day of her life. Grace is awesome.

Now, here are some layouts Grace created using the March 2010 Main Kit. Enjoy!

**********************************

1. Bookworm

In this layout, I was talking about my son’s new found interest in stories on tape. So to emphasize the theme/story of the page, I grabbed one of the chipboard shaped page from the MME minibook and used that as a template to cut out my pattern papers. I adhered the papers over each other as to mimic book pages.

I also added the part of the Prima rhinestone swirls here, the MME kraft tag and the yellow ribbon. I added a button on the ribbon for interest, having the paper thread go under the ribbon so when I tied the button, it created a cool crease on the ribbon as well.

2. A dreamer

I love this page because (a) I was able to play with some new actions I got online and dressed up my picture. I love that this new photoshop action made a cool distressed look for my picture and (b) I was able to add a lot of pattern papers into this layout without overwhelming the photo.

Remember, if you are combining lots of pattern papers, make sure you pick designs and elements in there that doesn’t distract with each other. Pick at least one dots, one stripe, one floral, one solid, etc. This way you have all the designs represented and yet it’s doesn’t overwhelm the page. Also make sure you do them in moderation. Size matters.

3. Happy Reunion

The lovely Basic Grey papers in the kit really makes a page pop with color. I emphasized two of them here.

I also added a border and journaling sticker from the Crate paper sheet and cut out a flower from one of the Crate paper pattern papers to add as an embellishment.

Another thing that made this page so fast to make are the transparent word and shamrock embellishment.

4. Lucky Gold

With this page, I wanted the focus to go to my pictures so I chose a more neutral colored patterned paper for background and added a few smaller strips of the other papers as a border in the middle.

I also added the canvas letters here from Little Yellow Bicycle and the calendar embellishment as well.

To highlight the dates, I grabbed two small circle stickers from the Crate Paper sticker sheet, hand cut out the centers and stuck it on the specific dates.

5. San Onofre Beach

Here’s my two page spread for this month. I can’t say it enough that this kit can give me so much product to make 4 pages PLUS one two page layout. That for me is really awesome.

I used one of the Crate paper stickers for my flower and to cover the lines (for journaling) I added another flower and a button.

There were some pictures that I didn’t feel good showing off, but I still wanted them to be included in this page. These are pictures that I only want my family to see, so to overcome my little dilemma, I added a small folded album on the right edge with pattern paper. I cut a piece that’s just a bit bigger than my pictures, folded it and tucked the pictures inside.

Thank you for looking and hope you enjoy your March kit.

Sweet Baby minibook

By Grace Tolman

The gorgeous MME mini that came in the kit was indeed like the the packaging said- luscious! I definitely had a hard time adding anything to the front because I didn’t want to take away the beauty of the flocking design on it, so I opted with a simple title and a few layered pieces.

I decided to make a baby mini with it because, well, it’s been a while since I’ve made one and there’s a couple of friends of mine that are due in the near future so I’m making this for one of them. *smile*

In the inside, I decided to stick with one design and covered the bottom half of the pages with the pattern papers from the kit. Yes, there’s enough paper in the kit to finish 5 layouts AND this book. I still can’t get enough of how wonderful that is!

I used my trusty border punch to add design to the papers. Since this is a gift, I just cut out some green cardstock that will house the pictures. I also added the great journaling stickers from Crate paper on this project. Adding ready made journaling for the parents to write things down just makes sense. I did make sure I added them with pop up dots so that parts of the pictures can go underneath the journaling blocks.

After I was done, I couldn’t believe how thick it became!

So there you have it. Now go make something “luscious” with your mini book!

Signing off,
Grace
