Inspired by…
By Amy Kingsford
So now that you’ve been thinking a little about what inspires you … I’d like to share with you a simple way to “bottle that inspiration”, so to speak and use it for later. If you’re like me you see countless “inspiring” images, products, sights, etc. a day and have now idea what to do with them all. I don’t know about you…but I would never have enough space on my computer to save or bookmark every one, nor enough space in my brain to remember them.
That’s when a creative journal can come in handy!

The 21 pages in this month’s mini are perfect for keeping track of your random creative thoughts, inspirational images and creative prompts. And here are a few prompts from my own creative journal, to get the creativity flowing…

#1- Be inspired by your favorite products

#2-Be inspired by who or what you love

#3- Be inspired by your favorite song

#4-Be inspired by an organized space

#5-Be inspired by the world around you

#6- Be inspired by what others say
Looking for more great creative prompts, check out the following workshops, books, and challenges for a little more inspiration:
The Scrapbooker’s Creativity Kit – a book by Claudine Hellmuth
100 Creativity Exercises – an online workshop with Rhonna Farrer
U R 2 Cre8tive – an e-book by Stacy Jullian

I’m on vacation right now. My parents have a ranch in South Eastern Idaho and we’re enjoying the green, wide open spaces. My little girl loves to be here. She runs free; frolics with the cows and horses; rolls in the hay; and relishes in being allowed to get as dirty as she wants.
My little baby loves just being around people, so he’s happy to have all the love and attention. My dad has been smooching on his new grandbaby since we walked through the door.
Life is good. On my trip up here, I stopped in Flagstaff and was able to visit with Jennifer at her parents cabin. We were even able to get a little scrappin’ in … and I pleated some patterned paper (like I mentioned I wanted to in an early post) on a page Jen was working on. I actually didn’t bring my scrapbooking stuff with me. I had it all packed and forgot to load it into my car. So, when I was with Jen, I scrapped some of her pictures!
We played a little with the August main kit, which really made me want to scrap. So much so that I went to into town yesterday and bought a paper trimmer and some adhesive. I figure that’s all I need since I have the August kit in my hot little hands. Once the kids are tucked in bed tonight I can get busy creating.
I’m rambling. My point is that being on vacation has given me a renewed desire to scrap. Every time I take a new picture, I think “Oh, I can’t wait to create a page with that.” I’ve been so busy lately and adjusting to our new little family member, my scrapping has fallen to the wayside. I’m so thrilled to be getting back into a creative groove.

I’m going to start with a page featuring my son and his Great Grandma, who he met for the first time on Sunday. What are you working on today?

Confession: I spend hours perusing the Web looking at other crafters and what they’ve created. I pore over any and every crafty technique I can find. And when I’m all done, do I scrap, sew, paint or write?
Nope. I just feel hopelessly inadequate. I have a paralyzing case of creative envy.
I know. This sounds totally silly. I only share because I’m there are other out there that are just like me. We are creative. We want to be more creative. But because this creativity doesn’t come as easy to us as the Donna Downeys and Ali Edwards of the world, we beat ourselves up and quit.
We shouldn’t. And here’s why.
I don’t want to quit. I want to create. By profession, I’m a writer. My degree is in journalism. When I started, I compared myself to the greats, and my editor told me to stop doing that, find your voice, and you’ll excel. And I did. 10 years later, I’ve seen my byline attached to thousands of pieces, and now I know that was great advice.
I don’t have a scrapping editor. I’m still finding my own voice. But that’s okay. As long as I keep scrapping. As long as I keep creating. It will come. And the less I compare myself to others and beat myself up over not being “as” talented as I’d like, the more likely it is my creative juices will flow.
Give yourself a break today. Just enjoy what ever creative activity you’re doing. Go with the flow and I know you’ll find your own voice.
