September Mini Tutorial

Katie here! If you’re a Crazy Daisy regular, I think you know by now that I love making supplies my own. One of the best ways to do this, I’ve found, is to challenge myself to look at the monthly mini in a new way. This time, I thought, “What haven’t I done before? What would look cute with this album?” Pair those questions with the desire to use a piece of cork board I had laying around, and you get an idea!

To create the two mini cork boards found in my album, follow the steps below:

1. Separate your pages. Order them all by size. For the cork boards, we’ll only be using three medium bracket and three large bracket pages. So: Not the front and back cover, nor the two little bracket pages.
2. Decide what shapes you want your boards to be and draw them in with pencil. One of my cork boards is a thick, rectangular shape, while the other is thin and much smaller. You’ll want to use the heaviest of each set of pages to be the backing of the cork board (the chipboard won’t buckle under the glue and you won’t have problems with pushing thumbtacks completely through). Take one of the two lighter pages of each set and draw rectangles on them. You can either freehand — which is what I did before straightening my edges up with a ruler where I needed to — or you can trace a template. Then, using an X-Acto knife, cut the shapes out so that you are left with two frames. Use the frames as a guide to trace onto the remaining light pages, leaving the heavy pages intact (they’ll only provide backing).

3. Use the center blocks which you cut out with your craft knife as a guide to determine how big the pieces of cork need to be. Tracing around them with a Sharpie works best for this part. Then, cut the cork to size.

4. Adhere the two cardstock frame pages from each set together, and then back them with their respective chipboard pages. Double sided tape works best, but you could also use liquid glue — if you do, make sure to allow the glue to set properly by placing the boards underneath a stack of heavy books; otherwise, they’ll warp.

5. Using strong liquid glue — Elmer’s Craft Bond is awesome, but Aleene’s Tacky Glue would also work very well — adhere the cork in place. The pieces should fit right into their little frames.

6. Seal the edges of the boards by using Mod Podge. This is optional, but I feel it makes things look more cohesive!

7. Next, I decorated my pages by using foam stamps and yellow acrylic paint, stamping words which remind me of fall.

8. Decorate the rest of your pages to follow suit, and there you have it! Your own, customized, spiffy fall mini. :) Now all you need to is embellish! Have fun.

August Mini Book

Posted on by crazydaisy

I haven’t met a mini book I didn’t love. I love mini books. I love the size. I love the feeling of accomplishment I get when I finish one. I love giving them as presents. In short, I love them.

This mini book, from Amber Zimmerman, is no exception. She took all the goodies from the August 2010 Main Kit and made the most adorable mini book ever. It’s so simple, but so sweet. Love it. Check it out:

Hello August

Posted on by crazydaisy

It’s August. Wow! This summer has flown by. I’m sad to see it go, but I know that my daugther is excited to go back to school and it’ll be nice to get into our  school-time routine.

I’m in Denmark right now, along with my husband. We have had some great adventures and have enjoyed our time as grown-ups without kiddos (though I always miss my babies when I am away from them). We have decided we need to make couple’s time a priority as it’s good for everyone if mom and dad are happy.

Since I’m in Denmark right now, I thought I’d share the four things I love best about Denmark.

1. The bread: I can seriously eat my weight in bread while in Denmark. Every day there are baskets and baskets of fresh bread. Bread with breakfast. Bread with lunch. Bread with dinner. I think I gain about 20 pounds each time I visit Denmark, but it’s so worth it.

2. Public transportation: It’s super easy to get around Denmark. Jump on a train. Hop on the bus. Hail a cab. No matter what you want to do, you can get there in no time with few, if any, complications.

3. The Hoptimist:  In 1968, furniture designer Gustav Ehrenreich created the Hoptimists (above). In accordance with the trends of the time, his figures were characterized by their bright and positive colors and appealing shapes. These little fellows do nothing more than bring a smile to my face. The bounce around and look like they are giggling. I bought one for my husband my last trip to Denmark and it’s a favorite trinket on his work desk. No one can walk past without giving the Hoptimist a tap and then they always walk away with a smile.

4. The Ice Cream: Much like the bread in Denmark, the ice cream is freshly made each day and uses real ingredients (like real cream) to make some of the world’s yummiest ice cream. Even if it’s snowing you’ll finding me walking down the street with my daily ice cream cone. Love, love, love it.  Interesting fact, you can get licorice ice cream in Denmark. They are serious about their licorice, it’s like their national flavor!

Is there a place you went this summer that you love? Tell us about it, we want to hear. Better yet, scrap about it and then send us some pictures of your finished pages to kimberly@crazydaisykits.com.

August Mini Kit Peek

Posted on by crazydaisy

Now that I have a baby boy of my own, I’m finding that I’m leaving the pinks behind.

And even with my daughter,  I might have gone a little overboard these last 6 years with the pink. Layouts featuring my daughter could use a little diversity … maybe a red or blue … or even some brown!

Why do I ramble about this? I wanted to tell you all little bit about the August Mini Kit and why I love it. It’s all boy. But for my dirt loving, tree climbing daughter … it will work as well.

So take a peek … here’s a little looksy at the August Mini Kit from Crazy Daisy.

Sketch Inspiration

Have you ever heard of the site/group Sketch Inspiration?

It’s a cool community that posts a weekly scrapbooking sketch to inspire its users. If you are in a slump, or just want to check out some very talented scrappers, this is a fun place to start. After looking at tons of great layouts, I was seriously motivated to get crafting.

This week, Crazy Daisy is the sponsor and you can enter for a chance to win a May 2010 Mini Kit.

Using our May Kits, the Crazy Daisy Design Team created a bunch of layouts using this week’s sketch … look at what they did:

Lazy Daisy

Posted on by crazydaisy

Procrastinator.

Lazy.

Tired.

Unmotivated.

I’ve been home from Brazil for little over a week now and I’m having the hardest time getting back into the swing of things. I haven’t been feeling my best, which only complicates matters … but I have way too much to get done and feeling so unmotivated is putting a serious cramp in my productivity.

So what’s new? I cut my hair. I chopped off about four inches. I was tired of dealing with it and wanted a change. So chop. My daughter also got her hair cut (see photo above). She usually is highly adverse to getting her hair cut. Trims are even too much for her. She loudly proclaims, “I just want it blond mom.”  Umm, it is Shelby. But for some reason on this outing she told me she wanted her hair cut, gasp, short. So, we went with a shoulder length bob. It looks adorable.

Cooper is getting bigger by the moment. Seriously, I don’t remember Shelby growing up this fast. I love, love, love my little boy. He’s just so sweet. He has started to reach out for me and wraps his chubby little arms around my neck. I love to nuzzle him and drink in everything about him. He’s on the verge of walking and he doesn’t stay still all day long.

With the weather so fabulous here in Arizona, my hubby has been motivated to work on our backyard. Last weekend alone he and Shelby planted some new trees (including a peach tree), tomatoes and lots of pretty plants and flowers. He trimmed our wild Oleanders and beautified our planters with red mulch. Our backyard is starting to look good! As soon as I’m more motivated, I’ll share some photos.

So, what am I actually motivated to do?   This.

I even packed up my supplies with me and brought them to my favorite Starbucks (the place I like to work during the day when I need to get out of the house and REALLY focus).

Onto some Crazy Daisy news … Jennifer has been working her little heart out planning kits for the rest of the year. There are some fun things planned for the remainder of the year and I can’t wait to show you little peeks. We’re also planning lots of fun giveaways … this is going to be our Summer of Giveaways, so stay tuned for more information .

Here’s a little (very little) peek of what is planned for June. I love this kit and I’m sure you will too.

Happy Tuesday! Let’s cross our fingers I get out of my funk!

Where in the world is CD?

Posted on by crazydaisy

We packed up a March 2010 Kit.

Shipped it somewhere exotic.

And it has landed in the lap of a real world scrapper.

Where in the world is Crazy Daisy?

Starting with our March 2010 Main Kit we’ll be playing a little game we like to call, “Where in the world is Crazy Daisy?” We have found scrappers around the globe and we’ll be sending our kits to them. As we wait to see what they create with it, we’ll give you hints about where they are from. Try to guess. If you guess right, you’ll be entered to win a prize. Once the scrapper and their locale is revealed, he or she will tell us a little bit about what crafting is like in their part of the world, what inspires them and of course show us what they created with our kits!

How fun is this? If you love to craft and would like to get one of our kits (for free!) and play along with us, send me an email. We still have a few spots left for 2010.

Now … time for some hints as to where the March 2010 Kit landed.

  • Almost 43 million people live here
  • Those who live here are serious about soccer
  • The colors of this country’s flag are red, green, white, blue, yellow … with a little black to boot.
  • There was a movie, which got Oscar buzz and a few nominations, that featured this country

Any ideas where in the world Crazy Daisy might be? Tell us where you think our March Kit is … and even if you don’t get it right, we’ll pick a winner next Friday (March 26) . The winner will get a cool bunch of goodies, including a Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher, MME papers and a Crazy Daisy Scrapbooking tote.

Sweet Baby minibook

By Grace Tolman

The gorgeous MME mini that came in the kit was indeed like the the packaging said- luscious! I definitely had a hard time adding anything to the front because I didn’t want to take away the beauty of the flocking design on it, so I opted with a simple title and a few layered pieces.

I decided to make a baby mini with it because, well, it’s been a while since I’ve made one and there’s a couple of friends of mine that are due in the near future so I’m making this for one of them. *smile*

In the inside, I decided to stick with one design and covered the bottom half of the pages with the pattern papers from the kit. Yes, there’s enough paper in the kit to finish 5 layouts AND this book. I still can’t get enough of how wonderful that is!

I used my trusty border punch to add design to the papers. Since this is a gift, I just cut out some green cardstock that will house the pictures. I also added the great journaling stickers from Crate paper on this project. Adding ready made journaling for the parents to write things down just makes sense. I did make sure I added them with pop up dots so that parts of the pictures can go underneath the journaling blocks.

After I was done, I couldn’t believe how thick it became!

So there you have it. Now go make something “luscious” with your mini book!

Signing off,
Grace

DT: Meet Kelly

Posted on by crazydaisy

Now that we have a new design team on board, we decided to have one of our team members work with our mini kit each month, since it tends to get lost with all the hoopla around the main kit. Kelly Hansen is our mini kit girl! We are so excited to have her on our team and get the chance to shine the spotlight on her talents and our very cool mini kits. I love our mini kits. They are smaller than our main kits, but they are still filled with the coolest, cutest scrapbooking goodness out there. Make sure you check back in the weeks and months to come to see what Kelly does with our mini kits!

Now, let’s talk about Kelly!

“Hey everyone, my name is Kelly Hansen. Born in Florida but in 2007 my family and I moved to Carrollton, Ga. I’m a stay at home mom of two wonderful children, and have a supportive husband of 7 years. My family is a BIG part of my life and they have become my main subject in scrapbooking!

I started scrapbooking back in high school before I knew it was really a hobby. I picked up an album, paper, stickers and a glue stick. Ever since then I have been hooked. In the past few year I have started to really step out of the box. What started as a hobby has blossomed into a passion.

I love scrapbooking because it allows me to be creative and express who I am. I think it’s important to preserve memories for my family and remember those special and everyday moments for them to look back on. My style, well once in a while you’ll find me simple and clean then on the other 364 days out of the year I get totally carried away in my layouts. What can I say, I love adding extra details. I am so excited to be apart of this design team. And can’t wait to share my love of scrapbooking.”

1. I can’t imagine my life without … … my wonderful family & friends. They mean so much to me. Without them, WHAT WOULD I SCRAP???

2. My least favorite chore is … Oh, I LOVE to clean house, but there is a least favorite chore in this house. I don’t wash clothing. My hubby does it all for me, but I do LOVE to fold!

3. I would love to win a shopping spree to … Mall of America! Come on what more could you ask for?  Department stores galore in there. That’s every woman’s dream to have it all at her finger tips!

4. My must have treat and music when scrapbooking is … Music is a MUST. I listen to a wide range of music. Not much of a snacker while at home scrapbooking, but if I’m at the local scrapbook store it’s whatever they have on hand. Mainly OREO cookies are my favorite. I love them!

5. When scrapbooking, I love to use … pattern papers. I enjoy mixing paper lines. Love bling, flowers, and inks. I love to bring dimension to my pages & projects. And you’ll never find me scrapbooking without my Glue Glider Pro adhesive Runner – LOVE IT!

6. My favorite creative project is … I love layouts and mini albums of course, but I really enjoy altering just about anything I can get my hands on.

7. I thought I would never … join other design teams besides the local scrapbook store DT I’m on. I’m glad I did, cause I have truly enjoyed the ride.

8. My worst habit is …  wearing pajamas most every day while I’m at home. I like to call them comfy clothes.

9. My favorite scrappy or crafty web site is ….  Two peas in a bucket, and any sketch site. I love sketches!

10. You would never guess it, but I … am a reality show junkie. I know I’m wasting my time watching these shows, but I love them.

Check out out Gallery to see all the layouts and mini books our design team creates each month.
