4 Things: Looking Forward

Posted on by crazydaisy

1. Creative Escape 2010

Last year Jennifer and I were lucky enough to be picked to attend Creative Escape. It was an awesome experience. Loved all of the creative inspiration and left feeling super motivated to craft.  Creative Escape 2010 isn’t until the end of August, but I can’t stop thinking abou the fun in store for us.  Personally, I’m looking forward to Claudine Hellmuth’s class.  I have every book she’s written. I love her style. And I’m in awe of creativity. I can’t wait to be in the same room with her and learn some of her cool techniques. I’m also excited to have the opportunity to take a class from the amazing Jessica Sprague.I’m taking one of Jessica’s self-paced digi classes right now, and it will be cool to meet her in person and get some digi tips.

2. Cooper Walking

I know. I shouldn’t want my little boy to grow up any faster than he already is. But. He’s so close to walking and I love the walking phase. I can’t wait to see him chase his sister or our dog. right now, he’s really into holding onto my hands and walking around the house. It’s just so precious. I had forgotten how much I love this age. Everything is exciting to Cooper and it makes my life that much more exciting.

3. Books

If you know me well, you know that I’ve been a bit of a bookworm all my life. For as long as I can remember I have lost myself in books. However, life has been busy for me. The last few years have been a blur. I haven’t had a chance to read as much as I’d like. But I seem to have found more balance and I am SOlooking forward to tackling the stack of books that has been growing on my nightstand. Among the offerings?

The Last Time I saw You,” by Elizabeth Berg

The Girl Who Played with Fire,” by Stieg Larsson

Three Cups of Tea,” by Greg Mortenson

“The How of Happiness: A New Approach to Getting the Life You Want,” by Sonja Lyumbomirsky

4. San Diego Marathon

I’m walking the San Diego marathon. So is Jennifer. We have been walking our little hearts out for months now. The race is in June and we are going to squeeze in a trip to Sea World while there … so I’m not sure which I’m more excited for! No matter what, all of this walking has been good for me. I have dropped 4 pant sizes since having Cooper a year ago and 60ish pounds. I had a much better post-baby weight loss experience this time  … and that’s worth cheering for!

I didn’t mention all that much about Creative Escape 2009 … but Jennifer and I had the opportunity to attend this awesome, amazing, mind-blowing event this last August. We escaped our lives for a few days and were completely immersed in crafting goodness.

Let. Me. Tell. You. It was beyond awesome. I can speak for both us when I say we left Creative Escape filling renewed, rechartged and ready to craft our little hearts out. Every now and then I think you need to refill your inspiration cup. This was definitely an event where we went and our cups were filled beyond our wildest dreams.

teacherHellmuth

They have announced the teachers for Creative Escape 2010 and I so want to go again. All the teachers are super cool and very inspiring, but I’m especially excited about Claudine Hellmuth.

If you haven’t heard of her, pop on over to her blog. She is a collage artist and does some cool work. I have all her books and dream of having even an ounce of her talent. I have tried many of the techniques she shares in her books and have stacks of collages that have been started, but never finished. I’m looking forward to meeting her and soaking up some of her mojo.

Some of the other teachers on the bill, okay all of them, are super cool and well worth making the treck to Arizona for, as well as paying for the event (it’s a little precey, but worth every penny). You have to sign up to be placed in the registration lottery. Starting February 15th they will select at random some 700+ people to attend. I can only hope Jennifer or I get picked again!!!

Note: Photo at the top was edited using Picnik.com … a very cool online photo editing software. Check it out, I’m seriously addicted to it!

I’m obsessed …

collagewith Claudine Hellmuth and her collage book, “Collage Discovery Workshop – Beyond the Unexpected: New Techniques Using Color, Personal Imagery and Creative Surfaces.” Seriously, I’ve been carrying the book around in my purse. I read it whenever I get a chance and when I’m not reading the book I’m thinking about it. I’ve dreamt about the book and all the things I can do with the ideas Claudine shares. I’ve come up with a bunch of different collages I want to create and I can’t wait to get to work. For the most part, I own everything I need to try out all the different techniques Claudine teaches in her book, but yesterday I picked up a few last supplies and I’m ready to go.

Today I’m going to create my first project, it is inspired by the Beatles, since there has been a lot of Beatles Rock Band playing going on in my house! I was listening to the lyrics of one particular song last night and I was stuck by how much the words mean to me right now. It heard exactly what I needed to hear … which is interesting ’cause I’ve heard this song about a million times and have never been so moved, inspired or buoyed by it. Don’t you love how things speak to you in different ways, at different times in your life?

I can’t wait to show you what I create. After this particuly collage, I have another one planned (also inpsired by a Beatles song), and I’m going to be using items from the current Crazy Daisy Kit to make it! There are so many cool ways you can use your kit … it doesn’t just have to be on a scrapbook page.

Are you doing anything cool today? What’s inspiring you? Do you any fall projects planned? Do tell, we want to hear and share!
