What’s new?

Posted on by crazydaisy

What’s new you ask? I’ve been enjoying some much needed down time at home. Lots of snuggles. Lots of rest. And not very much Crazy Daisy. I needed a break from everything and my kiddos needed their mama. It’s been super nice.

But, there are some things I have been doing. I am taking a course with Big Picture Classses … Me: The Abridged Version taught by Cathy Zielske. I’m so loving it. It is super heavy on the writing, which is right up my alley. I’m doing my book 100 percent digi, so I’m hoping to finish it up soon and be able to share it. It’s been a great process.

I’m reading “Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life” by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. The book was Cathy’s inspiration for her Big Picture class and it’s quite inspiring. It’s an easy read and I highly recommend it.

I had a bunch of digi layouts (32 to be exact) printed at Persnickety Prints. They are having their semi-annual sale and 12×12 prints are just $1.49. The sale goes through tomorrow, Oct. 4. I can’t wait to get them and slide them into an album!

Check out some of these adorable layouts from our fab design team … if you’re like me, you’re still working through your September kit and could use a little inspiration!

Don’t you just love what Amber did in the layout above?

She stitched around some of the stars on the patterned paper. So cute. So clever.

August Mini Book

Posted on by crazydaisy

I haven’t met a mini book I didn’t love. I love mini books. I love the size. I love the feeling of accomplishment I get when I finish one. I love giving them as presents. In short, I love them.

This mini book, from Amber Zimmerman, is no exception. She took all the goodies from the August 2010 Main Kit and made the most adorable mini book ever. It’s so simple, but so sweet. Love it. Check it out:

Here’s a look at what Katie Turner did with her mini book. She based her book on Effer Dares’ Dare 119 and created a book of graphs and charts that correspond with random bits of my life!

DIY Pebbles

By Amber Zimmerman

Hello! I am bringing to you DIY pebbles, like the Prima (above) ones out there. :) I adore these little things and use them up fairly quickly. I can’t get enough of my embellishments. For me, embellishing a page is the best part!

You will need these glass pebbles (I purchased mine at Michaels, but you can get them at any craft store and you can also find them at Wal-Mart where you would find vases and artificial plants). Make sure you use clear ones (above), although you could really use any color as long as it’s translucent.

The most fun part is picking out your patterned paper. These papers in our June kit had some really fun patterned paper that was perfect for my “pebbles”.

Once I chose my paper, I placed the pebble on top of the design I wanted to use (above)  and traced around it.

I then cut it out and used Aleene’s paper glaze glue (below) to glue the paper to the pebble.

Don’t worry about the paper being too big. You can trim it once it is adhered and the glue has dried. I also sand it after trimming it a bit.

Now comes the fun part . . . using it on a page/card or furthering your embellishment with punches, etc. To give you an example, I used my punches and layered them and glued my pebble on top (below).

You can leave it like that (which is super cute), or add it to the center of a flower which I chose to do. Now you have a ready made embellishment! Happy creating! :)

DT: Mini May Ideas

Though May is almost over, I’m sure there are lots of you out there who have yet to use that May Kit that’s sitting on your desk. Right? Well, here’s another look at what you can do with the May Mini. And don’t worry, you have a few more days before the June kits ship, so get to work!

May Mini
By Amber Zimmerman

I chose to paint the scallops with crackle antique white paint. It seemed to go well with the vintage patterns on the paper for this kit. I loved the black and white scroll stickers and wanted them to stand out on their own. I also love the raw look of chipboard, so I simply painted over the back of each “page” and wrote a sister quote on top of the dry paint and added a scroll sticker. I loved the deep, rich colors with the black ribbons for this kit and thought the black and white photos contrasted nicely with the papers. I loved all of the different shapes of each page and having all the embellies peeking out made me happy. :)

April Eye Candy

Happy Saturday. Since it’s the weekend … I wanted to do something fun. Here’s a little something I want to call fun April Eye Candy.

This kit is so cute. Here are some layouts from Katie Turner:

Now, here are some layouts from Amber Zimmerman:

Now for your viewing pleasure … some goodies from Mara Campbell:

I love how different each design team member is and how these difference translate into fun and diverse layouts. It’s so refreshing to see what everyone can have a different style, use the same products and do what ever they please with their tools, stories and photos.

On a personal note … my little girl is 6 today! Where has the time gone? It still feels like yesterday when I held her in my arms for the first time.  She has been such a wonderful little life partner. We have so much fun together and I am blessed to have her in my life. I hope we are as close as we are now when she’s a teenager and beyond!

Happy Birthday my sweet girl. You are loved!

DT: Spring Flowers

Posted on by crazydaisy

Hello! With spring here, I have flowers and gardening on the brain. Although I do not have a green thumb to save my life. In fact, I am more likely to be known as the “grim reaper” of plants and flowers! So I thought something easy that *hopefully* I won’t kill off, would be these moss terrariums that you see poppin’ up all over etsy. I wanted one so bad last year, but they are rather pricey. I decided it couldn’t be too difficult to make my own. You need these few things:

A container
Sand (some use small gravel)
Charcoal (optional. . .you can find them in the aquarium section of a pet store – it’s to ward off smells)
Moss (I found some in a shady area of my yard)
Decorative Objects (this is the fun part!)

I used a jar that I picked up at a garage sale, the sand is for draining — although you don’t need very much at all. For the moss I scooped up a hearty section of soil with the moss and for decorative objects, I used smooth stones purchased from Wal-Mart. I plan to make a mushroom with mold-able clay and maybe purchase something cute from etsy.

You pretty much assemble it in that order too! Easy peasy! I just packed the moss down a bit and positioned the stones where I thought they looked good. This also gives the moss a place to grow. You’ll need a lid for your container to lock the moisture in and just keep it in indirect light and spray it to moisten it about once a month. There ya have it! Here are some links to inspire you toward your own Moss Terrarium. . .

Need some inspiration? Check this out … or this. How ’bout just one more!

For some some fun decorative accessories … you can go here, here and here.

Have fun and I’d love to see what you come up with! :-)

DT: Meet Amber

Posted on by crazydaisy

The tour of our Crazy Daisy Design Team 2010 continues. This time I’d like you to meet Amber Zimmerman.

“I am a 32 year old mama to 4 ankle biters — 3 girlies and our little dude, and a wife for nearly 12 years to my high school sweetie Kyle. I took up scrappin’ in 04 after my littlest girl was born. I always loved to pick up scrapbook mags before I began to scrapbook just to get ideas on how to display my photos and how to organize things. I soon was very addicted!

We live in Fort Wayne, Indiana — but secretly would love to live in a place that has palm trees and at least 70 degree weather … year round. ;-) I am a photographer in my spare time, I am known to my friends as the glitter queen as I looove all things glittery, and I also love karaoke, jazz music, roller coasters, coffee, girls nights out, and being with my family just to name a few. I am beyond excited to be a part of this team!”

1. I can’t imagine my life without …my Mac book.

2. My least favorite chore is … toilets … especially while I’m potty training my little dude. Ugh!

3. I would love to win a shopping spree to …the mall … that way I could shop at Archivers, JCrew, Anthropologie, and Forever 21! ;-)

4. My must have treat and music when scrapbooking is …chocolate – usually m&m’s, and depending on my mood usually something mellow like jazz or Matt Kearney, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat.

5. When scrapbooking, I love to use … glimmer mists and punches and my sewing machine lately.

6. My favorite creative project is … I love altered art, including canvases and mini books.

7. I thought I would never … scrapbook! I never understood the obsession with paper and stickers … ha ha! Now I’m hooked.

8. My worst habit is … staying up too late.

9. My favorite scrappy or crafty web site is …Two Peas in a  Bucket and I love to get ideas from flickr … I’m very visually inspired.

10. You would never guess it, but I … won a karaoke contest on a cruise ship, performing as Aretha Franklin. I performed R-E-S-P-E-C-T on the stage in the theater the last night of the cruise. =)
