June Kits are up!

Posted on by crazydaisy

Woo-hoo!

The June Kits are up and ready to go.

I am so loving summer right now and these two kits really reflect just how much the Crazy Daisy family loves summer. Jennifer isn’t quite in summer mode yet, but soon enough (school for her kids will be out this week) .. but summer is underway at my house and we are loving it. We’ve been to the zoo. We’ve been on a day trip. We’ve been to the park … all good summer fun and lots of photos to scrap!

Here’s the June 2010 Main Kit:

And here is the June 2010 Mini Kit:

Let us know what you think of the kits and if you have any ideas or suggestions on what you’d like to see in future kits, please let us know. We love to hear from you all and would love to add the things you REALLY want to have. Drop us a message here.

Have a great Memorial Day and remember those who have served our country and gave their lives for our freedom. This is a special day for me and our family, since we are very much a military family. So my thoughts and prayers are with those who have left us and those who continue to serve.

Maybe you can sit down with your kids and send a service member currently serving a nice letter? Check this out and maybe it will give you some ideas on what you might want to do. I was in the Army for 14 years and I was deployed overseas … I opened many letters addressed to “Any Soldier.” I still have a stack of them I saved from Operation Joint Endeavor. Those letters were my favorite thing to read and I looked forward to getting a little note from a stranger nearly every day. They definitely made the time pass quicker and made me feel loved and supported. Thank you to all the people who drew me pictures and sent me letters without ever knowing my name. I appreciated your support then and I’m sure others would appreciate your support now.

Do something. Do something good. A Blessed Memorial Day to you and yours.

DT: Mini May Ideas

Though May is almost over, I’m sure there are lots of you out there who have yet to use that May Kit that’s sitting on your desk. Right? Well, here’s another look at what you can do with the May Mini. And don’t worry, you have a few more days before the June kits ship, so get to work!

May Mini
By Amber Zimmerman

I chose to paint the scallops with crackle antique white paint. It seemed to go well with the vintage patterns on the paper for this kit. I loved the black and white scroll stickers and wanted them to stand out on their own. I also love the raw look of chipboard, so I simply painted over the back of each “page” and wrote a sister quote on top of the dry paint and added a scroll sticker. I loved the deep, rich colors with the black ribbons for this kit and thought the black and white photos contrasted nicely with the papers. I loved all of the different shapes of each page and having all the embellies peeking out made me happy. :)

Layout Tutorial

By Katie Turner

Here’s a tutorial I created based on the layout I made using the sketch from Sketch Inspiration!

1. Choose your background paper. I chose to use the beautiful My Mind’s Eye Life Stories Roses patterned paper (probably my favorite sheet in the May kit!). Then, position your photos where you want the frames to be in the end. Since I used a sketch at Sketch Inspiration, my positioning is based on that. I used vertical photos instead of horizontal, though, and also used 2×3 instead of larger sizes.

2. With a pencil, mark the paper where the corners of the photos meet it. Set the photos aside.

3. Using a paper piercer or an X-Acto knife (my weapon of choice), poke small holes through the marks you created in the previous step.

4. Turn your paper over. Using a ruler or a straight edge and your pencil, connect the holes. They will match the dimensions of your pictures, so when I was finished, I had two 2×3 rectangles in the exact place I’d positioned my photos earlier — just on the back of the paper.

5. Using a scalloped template (whether it’s something like I used or a punched border you created with a scalloped edge punch), trace petals inside the rectangles you just drew.

6. There’s no particular way to go about this; the size of my template allowed for roughly three scallops on the top and bottom edges and two scallops on each side.

7. Using an X-Acto knife, cut out all parts that won’t be needed. These include wherever scallops meet — most of what you’ll be tossing will have a triangular or diamond shape. Be sure not to cut everything out; you’ll want to cut the sides only down to where the scallops begin, meaning that you won’t cut the outermost top or bottom edges at all, and only the corners of the sides, before you reach the part where the two scallops jut out toward the middle.

8. Once you’ve done that, go ahead and fold outward, using the outermost lines you drew as a folding guide.

9. Using a toothpick or a coffee stirrer, curl the petals upward. Your basic frames are complete!

10. Mat your photos on matching kraft cardstock — I used the back of the My Mind’s Eye Life Stories Pink Damask patterned paper. My matting resulted in about half an inch of kraft cardstock visible on each side of the photos.

11. Place adhesive on the kraft border around your photos and adhere to the back of your background paper, carefully matching the photos up with their frames. And that’s it!

Fun Mini: Sushi

Is this not the cutest, funnest mini book you have ever seen? It’s all about sushi and it was created by Katie Turner using our May 2010 Main Kit.  Love it.

Now go get some sushi!

May Layouts ….

Posted on by crazydaisy

It’s such a treat for me each time I get an email from one of our design team members. These ladies rock. I’m impressed with all they do and what seems to be an endless source of creativity. They make me want to dedicate more time to doing all things crafty.

Here’s some layouts from Grace:

1. A Mother’s Bliss

Sometimes shaped pattern paper are good as a template to create shaped from another paper. Such was the case for the blue pattern paper which framed my white cardstock. I love the My Mind’s Eye pattern paper in the kit but it didn’t work with the rest of my design, so I used it as a template, tracing it behind the blue pattern and cutting out the design, giving me a unique frame. I also repurposed “8″ stickers for my 2 S’s in the title.

2. Anniversary date

This is my two page spread for this month. Although I usually use 12×12 size, I thought that the pictures will look better in a smaller scale.
I used the back side of the My Mind’s Eye papers with a Kraft color background. I cut out the GCD paper to get the handcut flowers on this page. They served as my elements that created the visual triangle.

3. his hands

This is one of my fave pages right now. I love that I was able to finally document something that I love about my husband. We have this little routine to hold hands while driving. Of course he has one hand in the steering wheel and the other holding mine. I took that “physical” representation of love and journaled about the many ways his hands shows love for me and the kids. To create the page, I layered pattern papers and embellishments. I love the fancy black trim and used that to lead the eye to the photo. I made sure the title stood out a little bit more against the background, so I painted over the paper and then adhered the letters.

4. Little Miss Sunshine

This page was based on the sketch assigned to all the design team members, for Sketch Inpiration. I layered two papers here. Gotta love double sided papers, I used just one sheet here, representing both patterns in this page. I added the lines of circles with punched pattern paper and buttons.

5. Breakfast fit for a Queen

This page focused on one photo. A photo of my breakfast during Mother’s day of last year. I lined up pattern papers, border sticker and trim. I also added the rubon, flower and journaling block here.

Grace’s Place: Note Cards

Note card set

By Grace Tolman

I love that Crazy Daisy kit are always chock full of products that even after finishing a mini book and 5 pages, there are still tons of leftovers to play with. So what do you do with these little gems?

How about make a set of note cards. Nowadays cards can get as big as a layout but what about those little cute note cards? Let’s not forget them!

Make three quick ones with your leftovers. See what I made with mine….

Quick tips:

1. Don’t worry about the size. The variety is actually better.

2. Grab leftover stickers, hand cut patterns from paper and rub ons for your sentiment or focal point.

3. Layer leftover papers, the scraps works well with these smaller project.

So that’s it. Hope you continue to have fun creating with your May kit.

Signing off,
Grace

Stretching Your Patterned Paper

By Mara Campbell

If you are anything like me, you love paper. Just love it and can’t resist buying it…even though you might have enough already to last you the next 50 years. Whenever I look at patterned paper, I am always looking for ways to use it differently. And one of my favorite things to do it cut elements out of the patterns to use as embellishments. I know, it’s not a new idea, but you can really get alot of mileage out of your paper by using it for embellishments too!

For this layout, I cut the flowers from the GCD Studios paper in the May kit to use as embellishments inside my grid pattern. I also used one at the top of the layout to tie everything together.

I am drawn to papers with big bold patterns and fancy flourishes. It’s fun to cut those flourishes out and use them as embellies! I loved this Pink Paislee paper in the May kit, it was just begging to be cut out.

So the next time you are using patterned paper, try looking for elements you can cut out and use elsewhere on your projects! Happy Scrapping, everyone!!

Sketch Inspiration

Have you ever heard of the site/group Sketch Inspiration?

It’s a cool community that posts a weekly scrapbooking sketch to inspire its users. If you are in a slump, or just want to check out some very talented scrappers, this is a fun place to start. After looking at tons of great layouts, I was seriously motivated to get crafting.

This week, Crazy Daisy is the sponsor and you can enter for a chance to win a May 2010 Mini Kit.

Using our May Kits, the Crazy Daisy Design Team created a bunch of layouts using this week’s sketch … look at what they did:

4 Things: Makin’ me smile

Posted on by crazydaisy

Four things making me smile this fabulous Wednesday …

1. This lovely layout

"Playground" a layout by the cool Katie Turner

2. I’ve said it before. I’ll say it again. I heart the Brave Girls  Club. I want to be a Brave Girl. And I want my daughter to be one too.

3. Words with Friends on my iPhone. I play with my husband. I play with Jennifer (she is currently beating me on not one, but two games we have going). I play with my brother-in-law. I play with my sister-in-law. I play with strangers. I just love this game. Come play with me, I’m crazydaisykits.

4.  Fabric flowers of all kinds. Tonight, while I am watching TV, I’m going to use this tutorial  (photo below) to make some flowers. Then, I’m going to make some of these … and add them to a tank for me and for Shelby, just like in the tutorial!

I’m starting to feel more motivated and less couch potato …. Have a GREAT Wednesday.

Lazy Daisy

Posted on by crazydaisy

Procrastinator.

Lazy.

Tired.

Unmotivated.

I’ve been home from Brazil for little over a week now and I’m having the hardest time getting back into the swing of things. I haven’t been feeling my best, which only complicates matters … but I have way too much to get done and feeling so unmotivated is putting a serious cramp in my productivity.

So what’s new? I cut my hair. I chopped off about four inches. I was tired of dealing with it and wanted a change. So chop. My daughter also got her hair cut (see photo above). She usually is highly adverse to getting her hair cut. Trims are even too much for her. She loudly proclaims, “I just want it blond mom.”  Umm, it is Shelby. But for some reason on this outing she told me she wanted her hair cut, gasp, short. So, we went with a shoulder length bob. It looks adorable.

Cooper is getting bigger by the moment. Seriously, I don’t remember Shelby growing up this fast. I love, love, love my little boy. He’s just so sweet. He has started to reach out for me and wraps his chubby little arms around my neck. I love to nuzzle him and drink in everything about him. He’s on the verge of walking and he doesn’t stay still all day long.

With the weather so fabulous here in Arizona, my hubby has been motivated to work on our backyard. Last weekend alone he and Shelby planted some new trees (including a peach tree), tomatoes and lots of pretty plants and flowers. He trimmed our wild Oleanders and beautified our planters with red mulch. Our backyard is starting to look good! As soon as I’m more motivated, I’ll share some photos.

So, what am I actually motivated to do?   This.

I even packed up my supplies with me and brought them to my favorite Starbucks (the place I like to work during the day when I need to get out of the house and REALLY focus).

Onto some Crazy Daisy news … Jennifer has been working her little heart out planning kits for the rest of the year. There are some fun things planned for the remainder of the year and I can’t wait to show you little peeks. We’re also planning lots of fun giveaways … this is going to be our Summer of Giveaways, so stay tuned for more information .

Here’s a little (very little) peek of what is planned for June. I love this kit and I’m sure you will too.

Happy Tuesday! Let’s cross our fingers I get out of my funk!
