Grace’s Place: Scraps

Itty Bitty scraps

By Grace Tolman

Hi guys! I’m sure most, if not all of you, have already received your March kit and you’ve probably made a few layouts here and there with the kit. By the way, don’t you just adore the main kit? The colors work so well together and the embellishments are just plain fun!

Well I don’t know about all of you but I’m one to save every little piece of paper that I can. Sometimes that’s a bad thing (you should see my scrap bin) but for the most part, those itty bitty pieces usually result to some cool new design that I haven’t thought about.

So today let me share with you three cards that I made with my leftover supplies from the March main kit.

These three cards were mainly put together with my kit scraps! I love the idea that by saving all my little strips of paper, I was able to make them come together (in small dozes) and bring color and design to my solid colored cards.

I added a few silk flowers from my own stash but for the most part my kit provided me with so much products to work with.

So that’s my share for today. Before you throw those itty bitty pieces of paper or products away, do a double check on them, you’ll never know what “bit” of inspiration you can get from them.

Till next time,
Grace

The final member of the Crazy Daisy Design Team 2010 is the fabulous Grace Tolman. Grace was part of our very first design team and we’re thrilled to have her continue as part of our team. She’s so talented. And I am amazed at how much she gets accomplished. Here’s a little more about Grace.

1. I can’t imagine my life without …  my family and paper! I cannot have enough of both.

2. My least favorite chore is …  cleaning the bathrooms. I get irritated at all the scrubbing that I need to do.

3. I would love to win a shopping spree to … Target or Michael’s. They got everything this girl ever wanted.

4. My must have treat and music when scrapbooking is …  Treat- don’t do treats, I get pretty messy when eating and I don’t want to get those in my projects; Music- it varies. Whatever I feel like listening at that time, and sometimes I even prefer it to be just quiet.

5. When scrapbooking, I love to use …lately I’ve been obsessed with border punches. It seems like every project has a punched border on them. They’re just fun and it adds that extra umph to everything.

6. My favorite creative project is … right now, it has to be cards. I love that they’re fast to make and I can pile it up with however many elements I want it to have.

7. I thought I would never …  learn the manual mode in my camera.

8. My worst habit is …  spending way too much time on the computer.

9. My favorite scrappy or crafty web site is …  there’s so many to choose from but I do linger at blogs a lot especially this and this.

10. You would never guess it, but I …  had a Winne the Pooh collection when I was in college. I was obsessed with it. I had everything from shirts, to stuff toys to bags. My mother-in-law found out about this and gave me a pooh kitchen towel one Christmas. She’s very sweet.

Disneyland or bust

Posted on by crazydaisy

We’re taking the Disney plunge. Since I grew up in Southern California and have been to Disneyland more times than I can count, I’m actually a little surprised that Shelby hasn’t been to Disneyland before. She went to California Adventure when she was about 18 months old (which means she didn’t get it and doesn’t remember it) … but no Disneyland. I was raised on Disneyland. I aspired to work at Disneyland. I loved everything about Disneyland.

This week is Shelby’s Spring Break and I have blocked out an entire week of family time. We’re flying to Los Angeles. We’re staying in a hotel within walking distance of Disneyland. We’ve already purchased our park hopper tickets. We are going to do it and do it right!  Jennifer is also on vacation this week and doing Disney … but she’s at Disney World with her girls! How fun and cool is that. Great minds think alike.

Cooper has no idea what’s going to happen, but Shelby? She is bouncing off the walls in excitement. I can’t wait to see her face when she sees the gates of Disneyland. It’s such a joy to re-live and re-see the wonders of childhood through our children’s eyes.

I’m excited to make some new memories. And I can’t wait to take all the photos and stories from this trip and preserve them forever. Here’s to a magical week!

DT: Make a Treat Bag

Posted on by crazydaisy

Have some leftover goodies from your March kit? Here’s a fun way to use them thanks to Miss Mara. Enjoy!

*****************************

Hi Everyone!! I am here today to show you how to make the easiest treat bag ever!! This will take you about 10 minutes and is perfect for Easter gifts, teacher appreciation gifts, neighbor gifts…just about anything. What you will need it this:

-1 piece of paper cut 11 inches x 4 inches
-something to create score lines
-clear plastic treat bag (find at your local craft store)
-embellishments for front of the bag

1. Score your paper at 1 inch, 5 inches and 7 inches.

2. Crease the score lines. The 1 inch flap will hang over the top. Seal the 1 inch flap over the top of the bag.

3. Using your circle punch or a pair of scissors, create an opening in the top. It could be a half circle with a circle punch or cut an opening with scissors.

4. Fill a clear treat bag with treats. Put the treat bag inside your folded treat bag and thread the top through the opening. Tie shut with a matching ribbon. Add embellishments to the front of the bag and/or add a tag to the bag.

There you have it!! A quick, fast treat bag that you can coordinate to any occasion! Thanks for stopping by the Crazy Daisy Blog and I hope you found some time today to be creative!

Grace’s Place: Layouts

Posted on by crazydaisy

I’m always amazed at the wonderful pages that Grace creates. She is super talented and if you ever read her blog you’ll know that she’s beyond busy, crazy organized and pretty much super mom. I envy the grace she shows in each day of her life. Grace is awesome.

Now, here are some layouts Grace created using the March 2010 Main Kit. Enjoy!

**********************************

1. Bookworm

In this layout, I was talking about my son’s new found interest in stories on tape. So to emphasize the theme/story of the page, I grabbed one of the chipboard shaped page from the MME minibook and used that as a template to cut out my pattern papers. I adhered the papers over each other as to mimic book pages.

I also added the part of the Prima rhinestone swirls here, the MME kraft tag and the yellow ribbon. I added a button on the ribbon for interest, having the paper thread go under the ribbon so when I tied the button, it created a cool crease on the ribbon as well.

2. A dreamer

I love this page because (a) I was able to play with some new actions I got online and dressed up my picture. I love that this new photoshop action made a cool distressed look for my picture and (b) I was able to add a lot of pattern papers into this layout without overwhelming the photo.

Remember, if you are combining lots of pattern papers, make sure you pick designs and elements in there that doesn’t distract with each other. Pick at least one dots, one stripe, one floral, one solid, etc. This way you have all the designs represented and yet it’s doesn’t overwhelm the page. Also make sure you do them in moderation. Size matters.

3. Happy Reunion

The lovely Basic Grey papers in the kit really makes a page pop with color. I emphasized two of them here.

I also added a border and journaling sticker from the Crate paper sheet and cut out a flower from one of the Crate paper pattern papers to add as an embellishment.

Another thing that made this page so fast to make are the transparent word and shamrock embellishment.

4. Lucky Gold

With this page, I wanted the focus to go to my pictures so I chose a more neutral colored patterned paper for background and added a few smaller strips of the other papers as a border in the middle.

I also added the canvas letters here from Little Yellow Bicycle and the calendar embellishment as well.

To highlight the dates, I grabbed two small circle stickers from the Crate Paper sticker sheet, hand cut out the centers and stuck it on the specific dates.

5. San Onofre Beach

Here’s my two page spread for this month. I can’t say it enough that this kit can give me so much product to make 4 pages PLUS one two page layout. That for me is really awesome.

I used one of the Crate paper stickers for my flower and to cover the lines (for journaling) I added another flower and a button.

There were some pictures that I didn’t feel good showing off, but I still wanted them to be included in this page. These are pictures that I only want my family to see, so to overcome my little dilemma, I added a small folded album on the right edge with pattern paper. I cut a piece that’s just a bit bigger than my pictures, folded it and tucked the pictures inside.

Thank you for looking and hope you enjoy your March kit.

Grace

DT: Meet Amber

Posted on by crazydaisy

The tour of our Crazy Daisy Design Team 2010 continues. This time I’d like you to meet Amber Zimmerman.

“I am a 32 year old mama to 4 ankle biters — 3 girlies and our little dude, and a wife for nearly 12 years to my high school sweetie Kyle. I took up scrappin’ in 04 after my littlest girl was born. I always loved to pick up scrapbook mags before I began to scrapbook just to get ideas on how to display my photos and how to organize things. I soon was very addicted!

We live in Fort Wayne, Indiana — but secretly would love to live in a place that has palm trees and at least 70 degree weather … year round. ;-) I am a photographer in my spare time, I am known to my friends as the glitter queen as I looove all things glittery, and I also love karaoke, jazz music, roller coasters, coffee, girls nights out, and being with my family just to name a few. I am beyond excited to be a part of this team!”

1. I can’t imagine my life without …my Mac book.

2. My least favorite chore is … toilets … especially while I’m potty training my little dude. Ugh!

3. I would love to win a shopping spree to …the mall … that way I could shop at Archivers, JCrew, Anthropologie, and Forever 21! ;-)

4. My must have treat and music when scrapbooking is …chocolate – usually m&m’s, and depending on my mood usually something mellow like jazz or Matt Kearney, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat.

5. When scrapbooking, I love to use … glimmer mists and punches and my sewing machine lately.

6. My favorite creative project is … I love altered art, including canvases and mini books.

7. I thought I would never … scrapbook! I never understood the obsession with paper and stickers … ha ha! Now I’m hooked.

8. My worst habit is … staying up too late.

9. My favorite scrappy or crafty web site is …Two Peas in a  Bucket and I love to get ideas from flickr … I’m very visually inspired.

10. You would never guess it, but I … won a karaoke contest on a cruise ship, performing as Aretha Franklin. I performed R-E-S-P-E-C-T on the stage in the theater the last night of the cruise. =)
