March Peek

Posted on by crazydaisy

I can’t resist. I just have to show you a little something from March. It’s a complete departure from what we did in February and it’s just so luscious!

Did you see the new Lush line from My Mind’s Eye? Well, we did. We loved it. We had to get it. And it’s one of the featured items in our March 2010 Main Kit. The mini for March is the lovely Green Lush Album!

Are you excited? I hope so, ’cause this is one great kit. I’m about to add the March 2010 Main Kit to our shopping cart. That way, if you really want it, you can pre-order. Remember, if you order now … you’re kit won’t ship until March 10th. And if you are already a Crazy Daisy subscriber, no worries –  you’re kit is already reserved.

February Projects

Posted on by crazydaisy

Since the February Kits are somewhere between us and you … I thought I’d share some fun layouts created using the February 2010 Main Kit.

A big thanks to Grace Tolman for helping us out and creating some awesome layouts this month. I’ll be posting her mini-book (as well as more layouts) some time next week, so make sure you check back. If you haven’t been to Grace’s blog, check it out. She is super talented. And don’t be surprised when you see her layouts in tons of magazines (Creating Keepsakes and Scrapbooking Trends to name a few). This girl is all over and so worth checking out.

Bowling Baby

I love the combos of green and pink. It screams girl to me so that’s what I used to make this page about my daughter in her first bowling experience.

I had a few pictures to scrap but I still made room for the title, enough journaling spot and spot embellishments.

I used the Pink Paislee stickers as part of my title and hand wrote the rest. I also created a visual triangle between the white on the journaling block, the sticker embellishment and rub-on butterfly.

Curly Q

I love this picture of my daughter. It just so happened to fit the bill of the theme of my page which is all about her curly hair.

I used the lovely shaped paper from Fancy pants. I added some subtle hearts on the paper by using the heart lace cardstock as a mask and spraying glimmer mist on the paper. It’s subtle but I love the added effect of it.

I used the flowers from one of the pattern papers and used them as accents. I added the flower trims here too. One as a trim and another cut out to make separate accents. The ticket stub was added here too.

I’m a planner. Almost to a fault. When things aren’t planned or go differently than planned, I typically have some trouble adjusting to the situation. Jennifer on the other hand is super easy going. She can roll with anything. We are opposites in that regard, which is probably why we have been able to be friends for so long and now business partners.

One of the coolest things to come out CHA are all of our wonderful plans for the next 6 months. I love the process of making lists and planning. I like to plan dinner for a month, though my husband will tell you I rarely stick to that plan! But over the course of the last few weeks, Jennifer and I spread out catalogs and products to  decide what we we’ll be putting in various kits through August. It’s been so much fun to mix and match things we both love and pick out newest and coolest products out there. I’m super excited about the April Main Kit. We’re using some Webster Pages for the very first time. The Lullaby Lane collection (picture below) fits perfectly with our “Boy Meets Girl” theme.

lullaby_lane

Isn’t this the most adorable collection you’ve ever seen? Our guest designer for April is gonna ROCK this kit. Our guest designer for April just rocks. She’s one of my creative idols. I’m so excited to get our kit and watch the magic happen! But enough about that …

I read an interesting blog post the other day. The title was “Buying is not the soultion.”  It basically talks about how we attempt to make everything better by buying things instead of addressing the real problems. When we want to lose  weight, then we go out and buy a bunch of stuff to help us lose weight. And the list goes on. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and how it applies to my crafting. Instead of just getting to work and crafting away. I obsesses. Then I go buy more stuff. Then I think some more. And then I buy some more stuff … all the while I could have been

Don’t forget to enter our current blog giveaway (see previous post). The comments will be open until Febraury 14th (or until I wake up on the 15th). Have a great night!

I love …. giveaways

I love … all of the wonderful women who applied to be on our design team. I am beyond impressed with their talent and creativity. This is going to be one tough decision. I have enjoyed looking at all your blogs and have been inspired by your stories and work. Thank you for sharing a bit of yourself with Crazy Daisy. We are honored.

I love … crafting with my daughter. Last week, when I was suppose to be doing something else. Ya know what I mean. Something grown-up like work, clean, or make dinner … my daughter wanted to craft. She can craft all day and all night if I let her. She loves all things crafty. So I said the heck with grown-up responsibilities, I was going to enjoy my child. This is what Shelby and I made. A princess flag banner as she calls it. She now has a princess bed (at least that’s what she told me!). The flags were made from patterned paper. We used ribbon to sting the flags. And we accented each end with fabric flowers. The flowers are just layered fabric flowers (cut some out with your Cricuit), sewed together and completed with a button in the middle. I had planned on using these two flowers to make Shelby some hair clips, but she had other ideas!

Shelby's Bed

I love … this smile. Need I say more? My Cooper is 10-months-old now and is a doll. He wakes up with a smile. Goes to bed with a smile. And never stops smiling all day long. I love this little angel and am so blessed to be his mama.

Things I’m lovin’ right now

Posted on by crazydaisy

There are some cool things out there on the Internet. I could spend all day just surfing away. Luckily, I have way too much to do … so I have to limit my Web time. On top of being generally busy, I currently have two sick kiddos. My daughter started vomiting yesterday (I know, too much info!). She’s never sick; so when she is, everyone in our house is miserable. Now, our baby is sick too. It’s so sad to see him in such a crummy place. His nose is running. He’s burning up. And he’s just cranky! So, in my short power surf, I found some cool stuff online, all of which are inspiring and include lots of projects to add to my list of future projects.

scrappy_heart_pincushion

Aren’t these scrappy pin cushions adorable? There is a tutorial on the Craftzine blog. Have you checked out Craft? There are some awesome ideas and really cool inspiration on the Craftzine blog.

I’ve started listening to a new podcast, Paperclipping Roundtable. It features a panel of professional scrappers, including Noell Hyman, Ana Cabrera and Stacy Julian to name a  few. It’s informative as well as inspirational. Download it and listen to it while scrappin, driving or working out. You won’t be disappointed.

While at CHA (actually, the consumer SuperShow before CHA), Jennifer got a new sewing machine. We did a bunch of fun make ‘n’ takes at various booths sponsored by the National Sewing Council. We both left itching to sew more. I really want to make my daughter some fun little skirts and hopefully teach her to sew, just like my mama taught me. I think I’m going to try this skirt (picture below).

I was reading a bunch of tweets today (I’m a Twitter junkie … you can follow me @crazydaisykits). Someone mentioned this old blog post of Ali Edwards‘ that caught my attention because the link to the post was proceeded by “one of my fave posts of all time. refer to it all the time.” Now that I’ve found it, I will be refering to it often as well.

Another one of my favorite scapbooking blogs that I read regularly is Donna Downey’s “Simply Me.” She’s a phenomenal artist. Her regular Wednesday feature, “Inspiration Wednesdays,” always leaves me in awe. I love, love, love everything Donna does. You have to check out yesterday’s post and the canvas she created.

Last but not least, I am really loving Craft Gossip. It’s a one stop shop for all things crafty. They find all the cool tips and tutorials around the Web and post them in one convenient location. Looking for inspiration or ideas … head to Craft Gossip.

Finish Line Scrapbooking with Stacy Julian

Posted on by crazydaisy

Scrap

Me working on my “Finish Line” scrapbook

While at CHA, Jennifer and I took Stacy Julian’s “Finish Line Scrapbooking” class. I’ve mentioned this before, and promised to come back with the details. So, I’m finally getting back to tell you all about it.

Not sure what finish line scrapbooking is? I would describe it as running, actually I mean sprinting,  a marathon in two hours. It’s the ultimate speed scrapping event. Under Stacy’s direction we each culled through 40 some odd photos (mine were from my wedding); cropped those photos; created 18 6×6 scrapbook pages;  and started to embellish the pages.

In the two hours, we were moving non stop. We weren’t thinking as much as doing. We stopped obsessing and just worried about creating. Now, this isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s actually more than a little hard and there were many times I felt like I was going to puke. Seriously. It was that overwhelming at times! But, at the end of the session I had a mini book that just needed to be embellished.

Last night, as I was watching “Lost” I did just that. I broke out my mini book and added like embellishments to create a flow from page to page … and of course add more visual interest. So over the course of two evening, I have lovely little mini-book featuring my wedding photos.

In the class, Stacy shared six steps to getting the “job” done in record time.

1. Title and quick sort. In about the length of a single song, Stacy had us select a title page photo and sort through our pictures to decide which ones would make the final cut.

2. Crop first. We took the stack of pictures we had settled on and cropped for the length of three songs. Stacy advised to crop out all the crap (my word, not her) that was taking up valuable real estate, but not offering anything. It’s a little scary to crop when you have no idea where and how you are going use a photo. But, the more I think about it the more sense it make. If you look at a photo it’s pretty easy to see what’s important and what’s just filler. Get rid of the filler.

3. Assemble and order your pages. After all the crazy cropping we did, we took our photos and started slapping them on pages. And when I say slap, I mean slap. Stacy said just put to photos on the page without think too much about what we were doing. She suggested we follow out gut and let intuition take over. I said it last week and I’ll say it again … I think too much. During this process, Stacy forced us to stop thinking and just create.

4. Balance correction.Once you all your pages built, then it’s time to balance out your pages. Some times you’ll realize that maybe you need to flip your pages around, reorder your pages or add elements that will create more balance on your pages. Now is the time to do that. You can also use this part of the process to hide blemishes or tweak pages that don’t look the way you want them to.

5. Embellish.Using a limited number and like embellishments, you can jazz up your pages and create flow in your album. For this book, we were asked to use black embellishments and I also snuck in some bling and crystals.

6. Finishing touches.Wrap it up. Add the last bits of embellishment. Decorate the cover … and almost like magic in just a few short hours, you are done.

I can’t say that I’ll scrap like this all the time, but I can seriously see how I could use this technique when I want to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time, create gifts for friends and family or just catch up. I’ll call it crafting with a purpose.

As soon as I finish my cover, I’ll post pictures of the finished project. I also want to add a single page of journaling to make it a tad more meaningful.

Jennifer and I are busy mamas with demanding lives … just like many of you out there. And we know sometimes it’s hard to get your scrapping started. With our kits, we are trying to make your crafting experience easier and hopefully more enjoyable.

Let us know what you think of our kits. Any feedback you have would be great. And most of all, have a wonderful week!
