We let you see the July Main kit early … so here’s a little sneak peek of the July Add-on Kit. It’s adorable. Another winner if you ask me (I know, I’m biased. But it really is quite cute).

The July 2009 Add-on Kit
We let you see the July Main kit early … so here’s a little sneak peek of the July Add-on Kit. It’s adorable. Another winner if you ask me (I know, I’m biased. But it really is quite cute).

The July 2009 Add-on Kit
June is almost over and the focus will be on all the cool creations using the vintage inspire July kit … but before we say goodbye to June, let’s look at some more layouts by Grace using the June main kit. We’re ga-ga for Grace. She’s so talented.

"Be Yourself" by Gracel Tolman
“This page was inspired by the Basic Grey paper that was in the kit. The beehive pattern inspired me to make my pattern paper background and the “bee” was a great jump start for my journaling and title. The beehive pattern also gave me the opportunity to use up all the pattern papers in the kit.

They were all so gorgeous and hard to resist that I wanted them all in this page. I created balance by having the pattern pieces towards the left side and a vertical stretch of pictures on the right and then connecting them all with the sheer ribbon.”

"Nature" by Grace Tolman
“Here I wanted to feature the fun monogrammed letters exclusive to the Crazy Daisy kit. One trick that I just stumbled upon is layering F and L on top of each other to create an E. I thought it was an easy and fun trick. You can’t hardly tell it was two different letters combined. I created a visual triangle between the photo corners and the scallop strip on the right edge. I covered some of the Basic Grey chipboards with pattern paper then trimmed and distressed the edges.

One trick I did with this was actually adhere the sticky side (back side) of the chipboard to the pattern paper instead of the front side. This way you know that every part of the chipboard are adhered onto the paper because the adhesive’s already there. I painted the swirly chipboard shape brown to create my flower stem. To finish off the flowers, I added a button in the middle.”
Here’s one from JJ Sobey:

A layout by JJ Sobey

I punched circles from the We R Memory Keepers and Basic Grey papers, inked the edges with Distress Ink in “Broken China”, and scattered them across the page to create movement. I added Distress Stickles in “Broken China” and “Peeled Paint” to some of the circles, and the bodies of the butterflies. (I love that the Distress Stickles match the Distress Inks!)”

Now if that layout didn’t wow you, though I’m sure it did … here’s a great layout by Grace Tolman. In this particular layout, Grace managed to get lots of photos on the page, something I struggle with. Lately I’m a one or two photo per page kind of scrapper. When I saw this page, I felt inspired to churn out some pages that are more photo-centric.

Another great layout from Grace
This is what Grace had to say about her layout:
“This page focused on the pictures. I had a lot of them from the event and although they were printed on a smaller scale there were still a lot of them. If you have these kinds of events that one picture is just not enough, go ahead and use as much pictures as you think will convey your story. Don’t be afraid that there’s no room for elements/embellishments. Sometimes, scrapbook pages need to give more room and emphasis to the picture especially if it tells a certain story. If cramming too much pictures onto one layout makes you uneasy, you can always make a two page spread instead.

To make my light blue thickers stand out against the light pattern paper background, I painted red over the paper before adhering the stickers. This makes them pop out more. I also added the stars from the Autumn leaves stitched alphabet sticker sheet. I rubbed them onto white cardstock first, cut them out and adhered them with pop up dots. This created dimension to my page.

I loved the Cosmo Cricket Tuesday paper cause the backside had lines on them already. The perfect paper to use for a journaling block.”
So now that you’ve seen some awesome pages … go forth and scrap!
I was surfing the Web tonight a stumbled on “A YOU Scrapbooking Idea — Weekly Challenge ,” it’s a scrapbooking challenge project that focuses on creating pages all about you.
Each week they post a challenge and an example of how’d they would scrap that challenge. What I found appealing about this particular challenge was that the prompts would force me to document my personal story and focus on me. So often I scrap about my kids and forget to document my story independent of my children and husband.
They started posted challenges in January, so there are already 24 challenges waiting for you to tackle. The most recent challenge is “I can’t live without … “
Okay, so I’ll play along. I can’t live without …
my family, specifically my husband and kids.
my iPhone. I’m addicted to the sucker, it makes my life so much easier.
my fuzzy travel socks. There’s nothing better than slipping those warm, fuzzy socks on at the start of a plane ride.
books. For as long as I can remember, I have had a great love affair with books. There’s nothing better than snuggling up with a great book and a sweet treat of some sort.
What can’t you live without? I’m gonna scrapbook the things I can’t love without, and you should too.
I was reading Ali Edwards’ blog this morning. She posted an adorable picture of her kids under the title “Right now.” After sharing what she was doing right then, Ali challenged her readers to grab their cameras and do the same.

My sweet baby boy, who is hanging out with me in my office.
So this is what I’m doing right now.:
* Still in my PJs, working away in my office
* Prepping for a workshop in Atlanta next week. My first post baby business trip. Coop will be heading out on the road with me.
* Cooper is loudly snoozing away in his swing (also in my office)
* Cassius, our dog, is curled up in a patch of sun and taking a nap of his own.
What are you doing right now? This would make a great scrapbooking page. Take a photo and then use your bullet items as your journaling. It’s a perfect snapshot of your daily life. I love it.
Well then here you go. Here are some really cool ways to use the June Main kit, courtesy of the talented ladies of the Crazy Daisy Design Team.
Here’s “Lunch with Godzilla” by JJ Sobey:

“These pictures of my son are just so typical, I couldn’t wait to scrap them. He loves his grilled cheese, and he loves his monster toys.
Pictures of a big monster needed a big title, so the corrugated letters in the kit were ideal. I linked them with Distress Ink in ‘Peeled Paint’ and ‘Brushed Corduroy.’ Then I stapled them to the layout, because staples are just so perfect with kraft coloured cardstock. I used a little StazOn ink in brown, to grunge up the buttons, as I wanted a more ‘dirty’ look for this page.

I had fun with a new border punch on this layout – it’s supposed to make an edge like a postage stamp. If you aren’t going for a postage stamp look, though, you’d never know – it’s just an interesting edge, and a lot less girly than most, so perfect for ‘boy pages’. I also kept some of the punched bits, and used them as little accents around the page.

I also cut out one of the captions from the printed note papers, and glued it to the fabric tag. And if you look close, I took some of the scraps leftover from the fabric piece (after making my flowers for another LO), and tucked them in a couple of spots. Why waste those cute little triangles?”

Now here’s a really cute page by Kim Whitten:
“An 8.5×11 LO I did early this week. The inspiration for this entire layout was actually an accident which is that crazy flower piece under the picture. I had used the Basic Grey chipboard piece on an earlier layout so I just used the reverse part left in the sheet as a sort of stencil and placed it on a scrap piece of black cardstock laying on my table and gesso’d the image.

It seeped through in places, but I decided to just play around with it and broke out my watercolor pencils (LOVE THOSE THINGS) and colored in the leaves with red, orange and yellow. After some outlining with my Sharpie, I cut around it and, voila! I used a piece of kraft paper as the base then layered some patterned paper from the June kit and a page from a vintage paperback I had.

I also used the Prima packaging from the felt branch in last month’s kit – I loved the kraft and blue grid pattern, the birds, and the scalloped edges! I had picked up several paint chips awhile back at my local Wal-Mart paint department so I used the orange one on this LO. Journaling right on the photo was perfect for this one with the light background..
”

This is my stepdaughter whom I am very proud of.”
Check back tomorrow for some more layouts from our design team. And be on the look out for more sneak peeks for July. We’ll be posting more photos all week.

A peek at the July 2009 Main Kit
The July Main Kit is really awesome. Very different than our previous kits. It has a more weathered, vintage feel.
Here are a few more photos to get you as excited about it as we are!

Some paper from the July 2009 Main Kit

This kit features a star-shaped chipboard album
I love to listen to my iPod on shuffle. I never listen to one album from start to finish. I always keep it on shuffle.
Adele. The Killers. Neil Young. Ben Kweller. Amy Winehouse… one right after another. I’m always excited to see what’s coming next and am always surprised at how well the different styles and artists just flow together. A lot of the music I listen to is at the urging of my husband. He’s the music guru in our family. I have discovered artists that I love because he insisted I try them out. If he didn’t push me to try new music, I’d be listening to tunes from a decade ago. I’m just not that adventurous where music is concerned and not willing to do the work to find new artists.
Joining and using a scrapbooking kit club is kind of like scrapbooking on shuffle: You don’t know exactly what you’re going to get and you’re encouraged (if not forced) to try things you wouldn’t normally use. Just like with music, I have my favorites when it comes to scrapbooking. If I could use paint on every layout, I would. But with the kit club, I’m constantly introduced to new patterns, papers, colors and tools.
I really enjoy the challenge of looking at each month’s kit and figuring out what I’m going to do with it. Granted, we do coordinate the papers and embellishments, but they aren’t always matchy-matchy or exactly what you’d expect. Plus, they’re not necessarily the supplies you’d go out and buy on your own. I’m forced to try things and techniques I normally wouldn’t because I’m scrappin’ on shuffle.
We are super excited to announce that our guest designer for July will be the amazingly talented Donna Downey.
